State-of-the-art vehicles for safe transportation of blood
Blood collected from voluntary blood donation centres can now be safely transported to the storage units of respective blood banks in Kerala without any hassles. Enabling them to do so are the state-of-the-art blood transportation vehicles, numbering 15 that were recently handed over to the Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS) in Thiruvananthapuram. The official handing over of the vehicles was done by the Minister for Health, P. K. Sreemati. Each district will be given a vehicle each, while one will be handed over to Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council.
Speaking on the occasion, the health minister said that by acquiring these vehicles, blood transportation to any corner of Kerala in a safe and secure manner has become a reality. This is indeed is an achievement for the Health Department of the State, she said.
The launch of the vehicles was also followed by the inauguration of walk-in coolers, which was also done by the minister for health. This is a refrigeration device meant for keeping HIV test kits. The inaugural function was presided by M.L.A. V. Surendran Pillai. Others who were present during the function include, M.L.A. V. Sivan Kutty, Project Director of KSACS, Dr K. Shylaja, Director of Health Department, Dr M. K. Jeevan, District Medical Officer, Dr N. Sreedhar and Assistant Project Director of KSACS, Dr T. V. Velayudhan.
