Organization Structure
KSACS is assisted in its activities by a Technical Support Unit (TSU) managed by the AIDS Prevention and Control Project (APAC) of the Voluntary Health Services, Chennai and funded by USAID.
Additionally, the State Resource Centre (STRC) - an institutional consortium of Kerala Institute of Local administration (KILA) and Social Organization for Mental-Health Action (SOMA) assists KSACS to ensure quality capacity building of the targeted intervention programs.
Apart from the 103 Jyothis Centres (ICTC) functioning in Govt set up, there are several hospitals in the private sector collaborating in running the Jyothis Centres (ICTC). Six NGO s in the state are managing Community Care Centres for people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA). The networks of PLHA are managing Prathyasha centres (Drop in Centres for PLHA) in all 14 Districts. More than 40 non- governmental organizations work in partnership with KSACS in implementing the targeted intervention programmes (Suraksha).
In addition to the health department, several departments such as the education department, the social welfare department, department for home affairs, kudumbasree, industries department, tourism department and the local self government department actively collaborate with the programme. This multi-sectoral approach has enabled the state to meet the AIDS challenge successfully and keep the HIV prevalence among the general population to about 0.3%, the lowest in south India.
